Dance

Aims

Our policy in Dance is to offer a wide range of opportunities for doing, thinking and feeling, which are fundamental experiences through which we learn and develop as individuals. We aim to provide a medium through which students can communicate without words. Through dance, we aim to enrich our students’ skills of composition, selection and creativity, and encourage them to work as individual as well as within a group thereby developing skills of communication, compromise and co-operation. In dance we will deliver a relevant and stimulating curriculum which will allow students to develop self confidence, particularly in their ability to express themselves. Students will develop skills as both creator and spectator of a broad range of dance styles. Opportunities for Gifted and Talented students will be offered and nurtured.

Pupils are encouraged to:

  • Share their ideas and reflect on their experience in dance.
  • Challenge their process by taking creative risks in their work, striving to reach their own movement vocabulary.
  • Learn to appreciate the culture, historical, political and social context of different professional dance works from within the industry.
