Introduction
Studying food technology enables pupils to develop skills and knowledge to design and make good quality products.
Students acquire and develop knowledge, skills and understanding through:
- Analysing and following a design brief
- Learning about food ingredients and their use in food products
- Gaining an understanding of nutrition and nutritional analysis
- Application of food science knowledge when designing and making
- Understanding the process of food product development
- Implementing good hygiene and safety practice
- Measuring quality of food products
- Sensory testing of food products
- Writing a specification and testing against it
- Learning about industrial food production on a large scale
- Developing skills in food preparation and cooking
- Evaluating and testing food products adapting and modifying designs and ideas
- Learning about food packaging and labelling
- Using information technology (ICT) to support product design
