Mission Statement
"To provide high quality teaching in all areas of the Performing Arts. To nurture confidence, self expression and creativity that will provide learners with opportunities to develop a career in the Arts along with life skills to prepare them for the future."
Aims:
The Knole Academy aims to provide a high standard of Performing Arts education and training for students of all abilities and backgrounds. We will endeavor to enthuse and inspire the young minds of students, giving them regular performance opportunities, through which they can celebrate and embrace fully the ‘Performing Arts’. We believe that performance opportunities, on small or large scale, can boost the self esteem of individuals and in doing so promote self-confidence and strength in a non-academic subject.
Lessons and Teaching methods
At Knole Academy, students in years 7, 8 and 9 are allocated one 50 minute period each of Dance, Drama and Music, each week. Students will be encouraged to explore and develop their creativity through performing and responding in Dance, Drama and Music.
Students work individually, in pairs, in small groups and as a whole class, taking part in games, exercises and presentations prepared in response to a range of topics and stimuli. The emphasis is working with others in the class on a creative process that expects students to present ideas and feelings in an environment where they feel confident to express themselves.
Assessment
Each student is set a National Curriculum sub-level target at the beginning of Year 7, through baseline assessment in the very first lessons. Students receive frequent verbal feedback throughout Key Stage 3 in order to help them improve. More formally, assessment in Dance focuses on the QCA level descriptors for making, performing and evaluating where students will record their assessments in these areas to track their progress.
How parents can help
By providing opportunities for their son/daughter to experience live performances and encouraging him/her to express opinions about what he/she has seen at live events or on television. By encouraging their child to participate in extra-curricular and out-of-academy performing arts activities.
