ICT

Aims:

To develop an Information & Communication Technology capability through individual and team activities which involve a range of themes, applications and data, and which lead to practical results.

To develop knowledge and understanding of the pivotal role of Information & Communication Technology in the world today.

How parents can help:

Parents are encouraged to discuss the project topics and suggest possible ways that the homework task can be completed. Commenting on the use of computers in daily life and how important they are will help girls to see ict as a skill that they cannot do without.

Optional Course

We are also proud to announce that in September 2009 we will be adding an option to the courses on offer.  Those who have decided on the optional course will be working on First National Certificate Level 2 – National Award.  This course is worth 2 GCSEs and replaces the old GCSE ICT Full Course which was only worth 1 GCSE.

The National Award consists of 3 units.  The first of which is also ICT Skills for Business (see above for details).  All the work for the three units is made up of practical tasks, and again there is no exam!

The other units students will be studying are:

• Multimedia Presentations

In this unit we will plan, create and evaluate a multimedia presention using techniques such as storyboarding.  Students will use their creativity to design and produce graphics and animations to include in their presentation.  They can also make short films to link in.

• Desktop Publishing

In this unit we will create a full colour 4 page newsletter combining text and graphics (including charts from a spreadsheet).  Students will learn how create a house style, and use various advanced desktop publishing techniques.  They will also write stories for the newsletter and take photos to go with them.

This is an exciting opportunity to develop and enhance existing student skills, and to give them the opportunity to explore the creative side of ICT.  We are really looking forward to seeing some excellent results!
