Healthy Living/School Meals
The academy has excellent dining rooms, providing a range of hot and cold snacks and meals throughout the day. A continental style breakfast can be bought from 8.15 am. A range of both hot and cold food is sold at morning break. A main meal of the day with a vegetarian alternative and the usual hot snack foods, such as jacket potatoes, are served at lunchtime along with an optional salad bar.
The academy aims to provide a healthy and varied diet so there is always a good choice of healthy food available. The dining room uses a cashless, payment fob system, operated by Independent Catering Limited. Advance payment by debit card may be made online at www.independentcatering.co.uk or alternatively click here to access your sQuid account.
Alternatively cash may be added to your child's account using the payment boxes in the dining room. Cheques made payable to Independent Catering will also be accepted.
This system enables both parents and the academy to monitor what students spend and eat and allows the academy to present reward vouchers for healthy eating choices. Arrangements are made for those who are entitled to a free meal using the same system, with a daily maximum spend. Special dietary needs can usually be met if prior notification is given. The academy provides ample space in the dining room and on picnic benches outside for students bringing packed lunches to school. All students in years 7–11 are expected to stay on site at lunch time.
