Sports Leaders Dare to Believe
This term Knole Academy hosted an inclusive sports day sponsored by Allianz for primary school students with varied additional needs. The day was titled, ‘Dare to believe’ and the students were all inspired by an athlete mentor who told us stories of playing at Wimbledon and beating top 10 ranked players. With hard work dreams can come true, if only we’d dare to believe it!
The day was led by sports leaders from both Knole Academy and Valence School who did a brilliant job of coaching and encouraging the young people taking part. Prior to the event all of the sports leaders completed a training course learning new Paralympic sports to share with the primary students. Our leaders were introduced to polybat, table cricket, power chair football, seated volleyball, goal ball and boccia. Power chair football was a firm favourite with the Knole students but some definitely needed a few driving lessons before being set free in a game situation!
It was heartening to see so many young people, disabled and able-bodied working and playing together. I hope that every primary school student who took part in the day went home feeling accomplished with a story to tell their parents because I know our leaders did. They should all be so proud, our sports leaders were fully committed to making the day a success and represented the Academy brilliantly, well done and thank you for all of your hard work!
