Knole Interact Sports Relief Matches
The Knole Interact Committee organised 3 ‘Staff v Students’ sports matches during Sports Relief week.
The first match was Handball; it was a fast paced game against the fearless Y9 Girls’ team but the staff managed to win 10-7.
A huge crowd gathered in the sports hall for the second Basketball match; the eagerly anticipated clash with the staff hoping to maintain their unbeaten record against the students. The students, led by Ryan, had other ideas and with a number of players also playing for Sevenoaks Suns Basketball Club, they were confident of putting up a good show. With 4 of the team over 6 feet tall they were an intimidating, physical bunch. Mrs Shea, had her work cut out controlling the supposedly non-contact game as the referee!
Early exchanges were fierce, but neither side could break the deadlock until Callum managed to score from a rebound, one of many for him in the game. The staff replied with a number of baskets from Mr White, Mr Turner and Mr Massey, but the students kept it level through some good shooting from Ewan, Gavin’s younger brother. Mr Ereaut was called on many times to rebound under the basket, and his height went some way to negating the students. Contributions from Mr Lloyd and Mr Major kept the scoreboard ticking over for the staff, but when Johnson appeared for the second half it was going to be a difficult game to call. Johnson actually scored the best basket of the match, beating three players before laying up into the basket, but from then on the staff surged ahead. Mr Turner controlled the ball and scored a beautiful basket while being fouled, sadly he missed the extra points! The final score was staff 24, students 16.
The last match in the Sports Relief series was the beautiful game, Football. The match was incredibly tough but the staff managed to beat the students by 3-1.
Thanks to all players and staff who contributed to the three games and to the spectators for their donations and cheering.
Final thanks to Mrs Noble who runs the Knole Interact Club and arranged the matches with the Knole Interact Committee. In total the students raised £269 for Sports Relief.
Better luck next year students!
