Ballet Trip to see The Sleeping Beauty at The London Coliseum
On Thursday 7 June 2018, I, along with Knole Academy dance students and staff, had the privilege of attending ‘The Sleeping Beauty’ at the London Coliseum. The theatre, which is a stunning example of Edwardian architecture, was the perfect setting for the beautiful dancing from the English National Ballet and excellent musicianship from the English National Ballet Philharmonic.
This bewitching and dark fairy-tale was brought to life with wonderful choreography by Kenneth MacMillan and Peter Farmer’s visually stunning sets of soft, leafy greens and misty golds and elaborate costumes by Nicholas Georgiadas aptly rooted the ballet in the 17th and 18th centuries.
The students could not fail to be inspired by the extraordinary depth of talent and gracefulness of the dancers, in particular the female dancers who performed large sections of the ballet on point. Amazing!
Attending the ballet is a truly magical experience and although it was my first time at such an event, it will most definitely not be my last.
