An afternoon at Glyndebourne
Thirty very fortunate Knole Academy students were lucky enough to go to Glyndebourne to see a production of Massenet’s Cendrillon. We were very fortunate with the weather and managed to enjoy the gardens for our picnic before taking our seats. The production was the story of Cinderella, but with a twist. The set design was a very clever use of mirrors and trees which gave a dream like quality to the production. The ugly sisters and step mother were true to form but bang up to date with a modern grotesque twist and the need to take lots of selfies.
The orchestra was superb and had some unusual instrumentation – a viola d’amore, a glass flute and lots of tuned percussion, all of which added to the sense of the whimsical and magical atmosphere and gilded and polished glittering sound.
All had a lovely time and we look forward to our next cultural experience at the Royal Opera House ballet.
