Taste of Success Food Award

The food technology department schemes of work link with the Sainsbury's 'Taste of Success' food awards and students are encouraged in gaining certification.

Year 7 - Bronze award 

1) Develop a new savoury filling for a pasty which would appeal to the 18-25 year old market. The pasty should have a regional flavour from the UK, or take inspiration from Europe.

2) Design and make a new salad which encourages people to eat more fruit.

Year 8 - Silver award

Develop a new type of biscuit for a luxury range called 'Fancy Fingers' for a special occasion. The biscuits should be sold in packets of 12, with each packet containing a minimum of 3 flavours.

Year 9 - Gold award

Develop a range of products that uses authentic ingredients from a country or region of your choice. Take one idea to prototype stage, emphasising its traditional aspects.

Year 10 – Platinum

A retailer is looking for an innovative savoury ready-meal to add to their lower fat range. The meal should also encourage fruit and vegetable consumption. The meal should come under the category of 'Foods from Around the World'. Develop a dish that meets this criteria, plus:
- is between £1.49 and £3.99;
- is 300g for a light meal and 450g for a main meal;
- contains less than 3% fat (with saturates being less than 50%) and less than 450kcals;
- incorporates at least one portion of fruit and vegetables (80g), so helping towards the 5 portions a day.
