School Clubs

There are a wide variety of clubs and extra curricular activities in which students are encouraged to participate. Sporting activities include: gymnastics, football, dance, rugby, netball, hockey, trampolining, basketball, tennis, athletics, rounders and many more. Other subjects also offer extra-curricular opportunities such as in science, cooking and debating to name but a few. The academy is proud of its art, dance, drama, music and homework clubs. Other regular academy events include: sponsored activities, an annual dance show, drama performances, music concerts, sports day, ski trips, foreign exchange and residential courses. The academy has a well resourced music department supported by ensemble groups, choirs and a full range of instrumental clubs. A key annual event that brings together the whole academy into one spectacular production is the annual show which is greatly enjoyed by those who are involved and those who come to support it. The academy organises regular residential visits abroad to enhance the learning of modern foreign languages as well as providing opportunities to visit other parts of the world. The academy is associated with the EU funded Comenius Project to promote good relations among students and teachers from across Europe. Throughout the year there are educational visits to theatres, art galleries, museums, historical sites and other places of educational interest. Students also have the opportunity to join the well established Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme from the age of fourteen. Students may enter for the Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards and learn many valuable life skills from the activities involved. The students are encouraged to support local and national charities. They are frequently involved in organising and taking part in fund raising activities.
