Knole and Trinity Students Take on the Mountains

Seventeen Year 12 students from Knole Academy and four students from Trinity School (a local Christian school) recently embarked on an unforgettable expedition to Snowdonia. Accompanied by Mr Ereaut, Miss Stock, and Mr Nicholas from Trinity, the group tackled challenging terrain, unpredictable weather, and developed vital outdoor skills.

Friday:
After a long journey, both minibuses arrived in the stunning Snowdonia National Park. To kick things off, the group completed an acclimatisation walk around the beautiful Llyn Idwal – setting the tone for the adventure ahead.

Saturday:
Half the group faced a serious challenge, summiting Mount Snowdon via the tough Y Lliwedd ridge, including both the West and East Peaks, in heavy rain and poor visibility. Their descent followed the rugged Watkins Path. Meanwhile, the other half took part in a navigation and emergency procedures training day with Miss Stock, covering Moel Meirch and Ysgafell Wen.

Sunday:
The groups swapped roles. Mr Ereaut led the second half up Snowdon via the scenic Miners’ Track, descending the Pyg Track. High winds and extremely poor visibility made alternative routes too dangerous. The first group completed their training walk with Miss Stock.

Monday:
Students set off on a remotely supervised expedition across Moel Dyrnogydd and Yr Arddu, heading toward a secluded lakeside campsite. With full packs and blazing sunshine, it was a demanding but rewarding day. Staff met them later at the remote campsite to support the overnight stay.

Tuesday:
At sunrise, students took in breathtaking views over the forest before packing up and hiking out of the wilderness. Spirits were high as they made their way back to the minibuses for the journey home- tired, proud, and full of stories.

This expedition not only tested physical limits but built resilience, teamwork, and unforgettable memories in one of the UK’s most beautiful landscapes.
