Intent

Enterprise and Marketing is all about understanding how businesses work and what makes them successful. It’s designed to help students think creatively, solve problems, and make smart decisions—skills that are useful whether you’re starting your own business or working for someone else.

Implementation

Students learn through a mix of theory and practical application. The course includes engaging tasks such as designing business proposals, conducting market research, and developing marketing campaigns. Lessons are interactive, with opportunities to work in teams, present ideas, and analyse real business scenarios.

Impact

Enterprise and Marketing empowers students to think commercially and critically. It enhances communication, numeracy, and problem-solving skills, while boosting self-confidence and resilience. Many students discover a passion for business and go on to pursue related subjects at higher levels.

Examination Information

OCR Cambridge Nationals Level 1/2 in Enterprise and Marketing

Exam Board: OCR

Qualifications: Cambridge Nationals Enterprise and Marketing Level 1/Level 2 Certificate (J837)

It consists of 3 units: one examined and two internally assessed and externally moderated.

R067 – Enterprise and marketing Concepts 

  • Worth 40% of overall qualification Grade.
  • Assessed by external examination at end of year 11.
  • The exam is 1 hour and 15 minutes long.
  • The exam is out of 70 marks.
  • There are 6 topic areas covering the required theory for the exam.
  • You are allowed a calculator in the exam.
  • The exam is split into two parts.
    • Part A – 10 Multiple choice questions.
    • Part B – short and medium answer questions.

R068 – Design a Business Proposal

  • Worth 30% of overall qualification Grade.
  • Assessed through a portfolio of work (coursework) marked in school out of 60 marks and then externally moderated by OCR
  • In this unit you will plan and design a new product based on a scenario written by the exam board.
  • The coursework is split into 6 sections.
  • Most of the work for this unit will be completed in lesson.
  • Some tasks will cross over with R069.

R069 – Market and Pitch a Business Proposal

  • Worth 30% of overall qualification Grade.
  • Assessed through a portfolio of work (coursework) marked in school out of 60 marks and then externally moderated by OCR
  • In this unit you will plan and design a new product based on a scenario written by the exam board.
  • The coursework is split into 5 sections.
  • Apart from preparing for a professional pitch, all of the work for this unit will be completed in lesson time.
  • Some tasks will cross over with R068.

Enterprise and Marketing

This course provides a strong foundation for further study in Business, Enterprise and Entrepreneurship, Finance, or Marketing at GCSE, A-Level, or vocational routes. It also opens doors to apprenticeships and careers in retail, advertising, management, and entrepreneurship.
