Singing Masterclass with Toby Spence

Singing students were very lucky to be given the opportunity to work with international tenor Toby Spence to improve their singing.  Students are working at Grade 5 and above and had to choose a song to sing to Toby.  He then asked them to re-sing parts of the song, changing different aspects of their technique to improve their singing.  Toby was totally inspirational and students  truly benefitted from the experience.

Toby is currently playing the role of Ghandi in an ENO production of Satyagraha by Philip Glass, but he has also sung at Covent Garden and in the world’s most famous opera houses.  Toby suffered from thyroid cancer a few years ago and had to relearn how to sing.

Toby' s teaching was totally inspirationally and sensitively managed.  The students he worked with were quick to trust both his challenge and support.

It was a fantastic afternoon which we hope we can repeat in the future.
